The historical accuracy of the script could be improved a lot. Joan of Arc is one of the best documented people from that era due to the large number of vivid eyewitness accounts and the letters dictated to scribes by Joan herself since she had two scribes in the army; but the play’s version is almost the diametric opposite of the real Joan of Arc in terms of attitudes and even some of the basic events of her life. And yet the playwright claims (on her website and elsewhere) that the play is historically accurate. The number of blatant inaccuracies are too numerous to list here, so please read the following article at the Medieval History Database site: http://www.medieval-history.org/index.php?MHDB-Article-Review-The-Second-Coming-of-Joan-of-Arc-by-Carolyn-Gage
My overall impression
Despite claims by the playwright that “The Second Coming of Joan of Arc” is based on the historical attitudes and circumstances of the real Joan of Arc, the following article at the Medieval History Database points out that (aside from the general outline) almost all of its ideas about Joan of Arc’s life and beliefs were invented out of thin air or based on the playwright’s life and beliefs: http://www.medieval-history.org/index.php?MHDB-Article-Review-The-Second-Coming-of-Joan-of-Arc-by-Carolyn-Gage
