The subconscious characters allowed a running commentary on the two leads’ inner machinations, while providing moments of clarity and levity in the all-too-human weakness being experienced by their counterparts.
The suggested, rather than over-emphasized indulgences were welcomed as we should know what that’s like and don’t need to be spoon-fed for shock value.
It made it so that what and how much the addict was consuming (alcohol, sex…etc) didn’t matter as much as the overwhelming need behind the desire.
What I didn't like
I’m not suggesting anything.
My overall impression
This was a remarkable show in that it dealt with serious subject matters in a stylized manner which allowed the audience to linger on the edges of being overwhelmed.
Every moment was about the affliction of addiction, regardless of its category.
The direction was clean and clarifying, the acting was outstanding but most of all the writing was of a caliber not recently seen.
This was a great idea well revealed and quite well performed.
