About the Project
Based on a true story, The Gingerbread Pimp is an emotionally-charged, poignant look at domestic abuse.
This dark comedy focuses on Coco, a naive nineteen-year-old girl, who meets Charlie – charismatic, charming, and eleven years older than her. He seduces Coco and she falls deeply in love with him. As their relationship develops, he systematically isolates her from her family and quietly persuades her to give up her own aspirations to be with him.
Charlie needs a visa and convinces Coco to marry him. After they are married, he emotionally batters and confuses her until she is a shell of the person she once was. But a series of events causes Coco to slowly regain control of her life, giving her the strength to finally stand up to him.
