I really like the snippets of time, the backtracking through the evening as the get together progressed. Hats off to Mr. Perlmutter it seems everything this man writes is fantastic.

My overall impression
The celebration of the upcoming responsibility of a child, against the backdrop of a spouse making decisions to help the family without consulting with the other spouse. A beautifully woven plot of the inter-relationships between the spouses and their mothers. Written, sometimes in the background and sometimes upfront in your face is the struggle of a person trying to understand a world that has changed faster than she can keep up. A mother trying to understand a new normal, but sadly not really given an opportunity to do so.
