What I liked
The recitation of the short story and poem were strengthened by acting out the plot as it was spoken. Never read “The Black Cat” but was amazed how effective the delivery was the character’s alcoholism became more terrifying. I knew “The Raven” after reading it and hearing it a few times. I’ve never had more insight into this poem than by the performance of it. The lighting, mood music and sound effects added to the effects.
What I didn't like
I wasn’t sure if the narrator of “The Black Cat” was Poe or not.
My overall impression
The production was well done. A gentleman writing as a small desk was on stage as the audience filed in. He then performed “The Black Cat” by Poe. Afterwards, the actor did a quick change and added make-up in view of the audience to deliver “The Raven” expertly.
