The music added fluidity, levity, and catharsis. The nostalgia, research, and projected images made it all feel so alive. It felt educational without being preachy or dry. The personal, difficult discoveries so vulnerably shared are the key to a crucial conversation for white America.
What I didn't like
A couple of the transitions happened at mid- or low-level energy points, which affected some of the pacing.
My overall impression
Watching someone model the process of exploring their family history inspired me. If we want any hope of escaping the repetitions of history, we need to know our history, and this performance makes that personal. Putting family, local, national, and world history on a timeline together made for a fascinating, moving revelation!
