My overall impression
There was a lot of joy and energy in this production. It’s exciting to see a group of young artists throw themselves into a physical piece of theater. They had an excellent sense of stage picture and lighting and some evocative images were created.
The piece would have had more impact for me if more attention had been paid to context and story; I often wanted to understand what their images were communicating but was only able to guess. To be fair, perhaps their intention was a more amorphous/open-to-interpretation sort of storytelling. If that’s the case, then they achieved their goal, though it was less impactful for me personally.
I really appreciated and enjoyed the clear care and attention that went into this piece. It feels loved by the performer/creators. I hope they continue to make stuff together and hone their craft as physical theater artists. I think there is serious potential in this group.
