What I liked
Genuine, committed cast performances and highly intelligent writing.
What I didn't like
There is nothing to improve; it was that well done!
My overall impression
Christian McLaughlin’s creation seemed rooted in an almost prophetic insight. It offered a timely narrative and characters so vividly portrayed that it felt as though the play was drafted with a crystal ball in hand!
The actors’ masterful impersonations of the Trump family were uncannily accurate, perfectly capturing their comedic essence. The brilliance of “Trumpery” lies in its ability to make us laugh and in its capacity to acknowledge and reflect on the never-ending Trump family news cycle of the last several years. The semblance of the Trump family trying to outmaneuver the law, depicted with McLaughlin’s sharp wit, provided a space for the audience to find solace in absurdity, offering relief and a sense of unity in laughter.
It was a potent reminder of how art, even from the most contentious subjects, can serve as a powerful conduit for healing and reflection. Watching “Trumpery” felt like applying a balm to these wounds. The play wasn’t just a source of entertainment; it was therapeutic—a night filled with healing laughter.
In the hands of Christian McLaughlin and the talented cast, what could have been a mere caricature of the Trump saga became an unforgettable night of comedy, camaraderie, and comfort.
