The performance is just as strong as the writing. Murphy is a compelling performer and is able to tap into self-awareness and vulnerability the writing demands. His comic timing is also quite adept and will carry the audience through the tougher moments.
What I didn't like
Some visual elements might have been cool? But also might have taken away from the performance.
My overall impression
This is an excellent work of self reflection that will not only make you laugh but will resonate with you. On the surface the show is about the absurd and impulsive actions we make in our youth, but as we go further along with Murphy on his journey it becomes more about how our relationships to other people not only inform who we are but who we want to be. It is a wild tale that you’ll know is true because of the reality in the storytelling. Murphy refrains from sparing himself to look good or admirable and is unafraid to express his shames and vulnerability. It is a whirlwind story that will be sure make you belly laugh and occasionally cringe if you can relate.
