I really liked the cut of the script, especially the first 2/3 – I didn’t miss any plot point or emotional beat at all. I liked how the costumes were differentiated between the three different groups of characters (Athenians, mechanicals, fairies), and also specifically between Lysander and Demetrius (the casting/hair story was awesome). I really liked the actor who played Helena at the performance I was at on 6/23.
What I didn't like
The theatre it was in is a tough one to stage for if you want more than one entrance, so I understand why it happened, but it was somewhat distracting sitting by the door to the theatre for that to be the main actor entrance throughout, especially when I could see everyone wait right behind the door, or sometimes in the aisle, for their cue.
My overall impression
A FANTASTIC cut of a fun play! The Shakespeare was SO clearly understood and acted, and I liked how quick the play moved. I honestly didn’t miss much from the original in this 60 minute version. Very impressed with the handling of the language.
