What I liked

I thought the fairies collectively did a lovely job. And though they appeared and operated in unison throughout the play, they all had their own unique styles (from shoe choice to idiosyncrasies) which allowed each of their characters to stand out without being too distracting. I was also thoroughly amused by Rani Solomon, as Nick Bottom, and all of his antics. In a particular scene where his character is slain, I felt the actor demonstrated the perfect example of how to “make a choice and commit!”, and this actor certainly DID commit. Bravo!

What I didn't like

I would have loved to see a little more done with costumes and wardrobe, especially since the set is minimalistic /blackbox. I think this would have really added to the movement of how the story tellers really “played” their role. I thought some of the characters were simplistic but creative where others could have used a little something extra.

My overall impression

I enjoyed the rendition of this classic Shakespearean comedy very much. The modernized spin to an already rambunctious tale, under the clever and witty direction of Colleen Hammond and Sandra Benton, was fun and amusing to witness. I thought the cast was a filled with a talented group of (mostly) young individuals whose love and appreciation for the theater was ever present in their energy and contact-stage presence. It was clear that the performers all had different backgrounds of training but, as an ensemble were able to showcase their understanding of this work in a fun, and easily digestible way. Fantastic job!
