The performances were captivating, particularly Lauren Grace Parra as Saint Monica, Fernando Arredondo as Caiaphas the Elder, Hilda Perez as Mother Teresa, Alexander Gibson as Yusef El-Fayoumy, Lion Orduño as Jesus, and Angel Molina as Judas.
The directing lifted the themes within the script and kept the action focused in simple ways that told the story well.
The writing is superb.
What I didn't like
A few cases of overly rushing through language in emotional moments or of speaking too quietly in private ones, moments in which a little more time, volume, or annunciation would help the words carry.
My overall impression
This production was a seamless blend of comedy and thought-provoking questions carried out with huge heart by dedicated artists. The cast ranged from experienced performers to those just beginning, but there was not a weak link when it came to captivating my attention and breathing life into the material. Each moment felt fully inhabited. The humor and struggle cascaded through effortlessly, taking a well-written play and creating a night of great catharsis, spiritual interrogation, and humanity.
