Just getting off book and seamless transitions. With more practice it will all be there. Literally just needs more shows…so give her more shows!
My overall impression
I’ve known Ariella since her Rocky Horror Picture Show shadowcast days, so I was thrilled to finally see this powerhouse take on an autobiographical one woman show. I learned new things about her, new things about me, and most importantly new things about our society and how we take up space in it. From sharing her Gen X wisdom of what to tell a doctor who won’t run a test you ask for (instruct them to chart their refusal), to navigating non-monogamy in a loving marriage, to what it feels like to be someone whose weight fluctuates in a world where “fat” is an acceptable “joke” and four of your friends have died of diabetes and your kids are afraid you’ll be next. The hour flew by as Ariella expertly guided us through heavy topics handled with brutal honesty and deft comedic chops. She has so much stage experience that my favorite part was when she lost her place and ad-libbed, interacting directly with the audience. The only thing missing in this funny and empowering evening is hearing her gorgeous singing. Her 47 years of theatrical experience shine – Ariella is truly a star. Hope to see this show continue after Fringe, and think it would be a sensation streaming online. Viva la Revolution!
