I felt its genuineness, was impressed by the artist’s bravery and curiosity in soliciting Facebook responses from Trump’s supporters, and loved Wilson’s singing. The music seemed to carry the determined, heartbroken spirit of the ancestors into our midst.
What I didn't like
The characterization of the nine year old boy bothered me. Since we didn’t know at first that it was a nine year old boy, I first thought he was a mentally challenged person. That in turn seemed too easy and dismissive a way to characterize a would-be Trump supporter. Only when we heard him talk about the contrasting views of his two grandmothers—- views that I felt were VERY insightful—- did I understand his role.
My overall impression
Powerful, intimate reflections on the Trump effect—— punctuated by song, multiple characters inhabited and remembrance of the surreal moments election night.
