Yelba was able to bring up real emotion within the viewer, which is what I enjoyed the most. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the lines from life’s unintentional comedy. One of the characters that Yelba played was named Nerda. Nerda brought an awesome ridiculousness to the show, which was needed to counter some of the serious topics that explored social injustices, prejudice, and even racism. I found myself nodding my head during some the thought provoking scenes. And I also found myself completely heartbroken when Yelba authentically delivered some of the plays more painful scenes.
What I didn't like
The temperature ran on the warmer side during the show and a fan might be useful.
My overall impression
Yelba successfully keeps the attention of the audience for the entirety of the show, while playing all the characters herself. This thoughtfully written play takes the viewer through the different stages of Yelba’s life by weaving the story of her family’s American Dream with her own journey.
