The community building. It’s a great way to meet different people at the festival. Some of the games were fun.
What I didn't like
There were these moments where music would swell and the host would ‘go somewhere’…. I wanted him to expand more on that. Make everything MEAN something bigger. Maybe a poignant message of how “life is a game” or “nothing we do really matters” like FATE verse CHOICE – (RE: Button push, car race) or “Why do we care so much about so little” – I dunno. Somethin’. The ‘special guest performer’ was a little off-putting. I get that it’s part of HER show – but we weren’t at her show so her ‘put on’ attitude while playing the cello was kinda eye-rolley. It was also obvious that she was a part of the thing in some way – so when she was “Chosen” to be a volunteer in the beginning I was like ‘Well, I dont trust this host – right off the bat’. Though I will say she played the cello beautifully and chose the RIGHT winner of the drawing game. Again, I just felt it all could have meant something more or lead to something – but maybe it’s just fine for what it is.
My overall impression
Gameshow! (x3) was a nice break from the regular Fringe scene. But is that ultimately a good thing for the host? Not sure. If the creator/host intended to not pack a significant punch at the festival but kinda provide a fun palate cleanser – than mission accomplished.
