I love the idea of infusing theatre into less theatrical environments, so a workout class with a narrative and character dynamics is an awesome opportunity to explore more! When the workout part of the show began, I felt genuinely supported and empowered. The cast (trainers?) were all super sweet and motivating. The show definitely lifts up rather than punches down, which I found created a good environment.
What I didn't like
I just think the dynamics of the show could be better articulated or fleshed out. If it’s a show, give us a little more plot. If it’s a workout class gone wrong/right, maybe don’t put us in seats first and just let the story play out through the class. If it’s immersive, maybe different things happen in different parts of the room, and only parts of the audience/class is privy to all events. There was a lot of talking over each other, so finally I’d recommend using calmer parts of the class to further develop the story/character arcs. Overall though, I found this to be a very impressive endeavor!
My overall impression
I’m not 100% sure what happened, but I got my heart beat going and had a really good time!
