What I liked
Sarah and Toni drew from their personal experiences to highlight the harms that rape culture inflicts on everyone. This vulnerability was, in my opinion, the heart and soul of the show. I appreciated the mixed-media elements and admired how, even when delving into a difficult subject, they infused the performance with high-energy humor and full-bodied silliness.
What I didn't like
I am the Paula Abdul of reviewing, I just want to encourage everybody to do their best and have fun. Maybe put the Donald Trump song on Spotify?
My overall impression
It is rare to encounter media that so precisely and poignantly frames women’s experiences as Grape Culture does. This play offers men valuable insights into their role in society while providing women with the rare opportunity to see their experiences authentically centered. Sarah and Toni masterfully present rape culture from serious, somber, informed, and humorous perspectives, packaging the play in a lighthearted manner that nonetheless leaves audiences deeply moved and thoughtful.
