Abby has a gift for jokes as narrative and solid endings, a lot of which will catch you totally off guard. What’s equally impressive is that though she’s taking you through a story, one that spans lifetimes and every section of society, she manages to keep you engaged the entire time. I’ve rarely seen a stand up who managed to string their disparate jokes together as deftly as Abby does and the sudden artillery bursts of totally-fits-but-you-will-NOT-see-it-coming punchlines constantly caught me by surprise while never feeling unearned.
I felt like I was listening to a Douglas Adams book on tape. Y’know that way he’d manage to take you from somewhere totally mundane to somewhere utterly mind blowing, or the other way around, and it makes you feel comfortable while also amazing you, often with how much sense it makes? That’s Abby Denton’s jokes.
What I didn't like
The material was fantastic, only notes are the lightning, which didn’t seem to be sure if it wanted to be on or off, making parts off the feed too bright to make out details sometimes, and a bit of a wait for the feed to kick in.
My overall impression
A fantastic Douglas Adams-esque act, setting up amazing punchlines (such as the titular brother gag) in ways you don’t see coming.
