There was not a moment where I was not hanging on every word. Wry observations, razor-sharp comic timing, all in the service of brilliant storytelling.
What I didn't like
Everything worked in this show.
My overall impression
For 75 minutes, Kathy Jensen accomplishes something extraordinary: she taps directly into our universal need for love and acceptance with grace, whimsy, and riveting storytelling. She’s also funny as hell. With her twinkly eyes and straightforward upper-Midwestern affect, she replays pivotal moments in her life ranging from early boyfriends to the unlikely love of her life, culminating in a moving tribute to her late mother. Her show’s title comes from a promise she made to her mother, and when that moment lands, it is a revelation that comes without an ounce of sentimentality—and is all the richer for it. Disclosure: I have known Kathy for about 30 years and performed with her. I have never seen her this funny, or as smart or as vulnerable. Thank you, Kathy, for something beautiful.
