A perfect balance of comedy and poignancy. Pam’s writing is spot on as usual and she and Tyler are both so easy to believe as these ridiculous characters (I mean that as a compliment). Scott Leggett’s staging proves that he knows how to use that 3-quarter space with aplomb and he kept the pace tight which the piece needs. Bravo to all!
What I didn't like
Pam’s comedy is extraordinarily specific and demands a specificity of comedy that is comedically specific. What I’m trying to say is that because the specificity of her comedic writing is comedically specific specifically due to the uniquely specific comedy style she employs, the specificity of each joke’s delivery needs to be so comedically specific that it creates a uniquely specific comedic atmosphere. The specificity of Pam’s comedic timing is a testament to her deep understanding of what makes comedy specifically work. Overall, her comedy, with its extraordinary specificity, delivers a uniquely specific comedic experience that is both specifically hilarious and comedically unforgettable. So what can be improved? I don’t know. But the comedy is specific.
My overall impression
I am very proud to have been part of the genesis of this show, but unfortunately I had to take a gig out of town and was unable to be part of it past early script development. Luckily I was able to catch the Livestream (thank you Broadwater!) and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I think this show is important and deserves a life beyond fringe.
