Valerie owns the stage with song and story, and her interactions with the band are so charming and fun. I took comfort in how beautiful and empowered she is on that stage so I could see the proof that this woman transcended the traumas she faced in her youth.
What I didn't like
The show ran over time & I know that can be a problem if there’s a show booked after. If they need to cut something to make a future show on time, perhaps some of the songs can be shortened? Not entirely sure where cuts would work best. Possibly some of the very early years’ stories so more time is available to get to the heart of the story later on. Hope this is helpful, wishing the show success!
My overall impression
Valerie Lacy is a brave and bold survivor of violence and trauma & I just felt so happy to see her thrive in this show considering everything she overcame.
