What I liked

The use of almost just one room for the entire play

What I didn't like

I was confused by the ending. The switch the present. When it was explained to me I found it quite powerful.

My overall impression

Amazing two person play. Set in a windowless room deep within a ship in the year 1543, two girls meet. In another life they might have been friends on an equal footing, but not here. One is effectively a prisoner from an island off Japan and the other is Portuguese missionary captain’s daughter. It’s dark situation full of power imbalance, and only gets darker. Exactly why this poor girl was taken from her home is finally made clear. And love and loyalty bond to a father proves tighter than ever.
Bravo to these two amazing actresses and writers! This is a brilliant play and I hope to see it go many great places in the future.
