I liked that not only did Ruth let us into her life, but she wasn’t afraid of the ugly stuff. Her vulnerability and her willingness to get onto the stage and speak her truth really meant a lot. I walked away from the show learning so much about Ruth, but what I really learned about was how one overcomes adversity and challenge. It’s a very inspiring show. Also, it’s really funny!
What I didn't like
I saw the preview, and Ruth wasn’t 100% off book. Now that she’s done the show for an audience and “broke her cherry” (her words) I know that for her next shows she’ll be more polished.
Honestly, other than that…have a blast!
My overall impression
Ruth Brandt’s “Happily Divorced” is a gem of a show. Ruth’s story is one of resilience, hard work, and picking up the pieces after one’s life falls apart. She’s vulnerable onstage, she’s funny and she’s very charming. I was delighted by this show, and I think you will be too.
