The show moved along. Great attempt. To do something is always BETTERTHAN NOTHING! It was not a complete disaster; nor, a disaster at all. IT WASOVERQUICKLY. Sort of like quick un-orgasmic sex, but you can tell IT’S GONNA BE BETTER the 3rd or 4th time, so you hang in there.
I liked the point driven, “MOSTMENAREHORRIBLE!” A teachable moment for generations future to know what NOT TO PUT UP WITH!
What I didn't like
My “actor brain” – the artist brain that sees everything wrong WHILETHEAVERAGEJOETHINKS IT’S SO GREAT! – kicked in after the show.
Upon leaving, a term, I’ve heard as an actor in class, came to me as soon as I hit the parking lot, “it was one note.”
Working on enunciation, and as I do, she swallowed many little words, seemed to rush a bit. She was putting on a character accent (i think), which the – swallowing of words and consonants – could be attributed to.
Noticed her hands severely shaking in the beginning, which, though nerves can never be completely shed, there are techniques used (which after a B.A. in Theatre and Film and various acting credits, etc. She should know) so the naked eye could not detect.
My overall impression
Synopsis, as I have read “The Great Gatsby”, got me interested. Show would have been better, NY Times article, to read silently.
