This was wonderful theater-going experience anchored by the text, direction and work of each of the actors involved. They gave themselves over throughout, taking such great care, and managed to share simultaneously the flaws, strengths, and complexities of these wonderfully human characters. The moments shift often at times from heartbreaking to humorous and then back again in a way that might feel not entirely possible if you were reading it on the page but when seen was crystal clear, effortless, beautiful. Well done.
What I didn't like
This is not at all a criticism, more an observation. I would very much enjoy the opportunity to revisit this production – the director and their vision, the actors and their performances – in a full set run non-festival environment (yes, easier said than done!). The L.A. Fringe is an invaluable place to become aware of works of and celebrate artists we may not have heard from before, like in this case, and yet the very nature of this play had a “bursting at the seams” quality to it that yearns for a larger and longer home for more exploration.
My overall impression
I saw this at Opening. This was wonderful theater-going experience anchored by the text, direction and work of each of the actors involved :)
