I loved the seamless integration of the subject’s poetry with the dialogue, as it reflects the nature of the internal process of writing… how thoughts are expressed and considered and reworked to become a piece of work that is then presented to an audience. The pain and struggle of the poet’s life and her trying to maintain the time, energy and focus on her art… even when doing so is a threat to her life… was beautifully portrayed.
What I didn't like
I’d love to see this developed in a space that allows for more staging than a black box theatre. This is a rich story, and it has many possibilities for how it is staged.
My overall impression
poignant and powerful tale of a Russian poet trying to create beauty in the heart of conflict.
