There is so much that is powerful and beautiful in this production. The use of the string to set up how events… even those out of our control… can entangle and ensnare the lived experience of someone had so much impact. It functioned on a subtle layer of reinforcement, and bound (no pun intended) all of the events together. So much of this was heartbreaking and solemn, and I appreciated the choices that injected moments of small levity to allow the audience to breathe and recover.
What I didn't like
While I feel like the back half of the play was incredibly tight and powerful, I feel like it would be worthwhile in future productions to see how the front half could be tightened up and edited, because that would make this a perfect piece of theatre.
My overall impression
Painful, powerful and personal exploration of how generational trauma can impact and haunt the individual.
