What I liked
I was so grateful for the livestream! I have no way to get to Los Angeles, but I was able to enjoy the show as if I was there.
I thought the cast for the show was much larger than it actually was. I didn’t realize Casey McKinnon and Guy Picot played multiple roles! They made each character distinct enough that I honestly thought this show had four more actors in it.
Jacob Sidney, the director, kept the play moving and also delivered a creepy performance as Charles Cross.
Natalie Dressel brought crackling energy to the role of the forensic assistant and was excellent as both support and foil for Dr. James Bryant.
And Crystal Keith was a compelling Penny. As the audience, we immediately understood why Bryant was so driven to save her.
Thomas Fiscella as Dr. James Bryant brought a quiet thoughtfulness to the role and made Bryant the sort of person you want to root for.
The video in the background may not have come through as well on the livestream as it did in real life, but what I was able to see added to the atmosphere without overwhelming the production.
What I didn't like
I would like to see a full-length version of this show.
My overall impression
This show has it all. It’s a play about Jack the Ripper, plus time travel, plus comedy, plus social commentary, plus forensics, all in one – and under an hour, no less! And it manages to balance all the elements well. Kudos to writer/producer/lead Crystal Keith for striking so many notes in such an excellent fashion.
