Kelly set the stage by warming up the audience with hilarious stories, some personal, some not, about her upbringing and formative years in Florida. The entire house was laughing and we were on board when she told us that she moved to Los Angeles to make it as a stand-up comic and continuing her career as psychology professor just prior to covid.
When we learn that she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer without ever feeling anything was off, we are shocked and we’ve already seen her positive outlook and amazing spirit, and we are rooting for her as she shares the journey and the fight to get the best care possible. Even as she navigates these incredibly serious subjects, she has a laughing.
Her mastery of storytelling hits in apex when she tells us about one particular group of students who she volunteered to teach and how they responded to her as a teacher and a person. I went from laughing to crying tears of empathy.
What I didn't like
This show does not need improvement. It needs more opportunities for Kelly to tell it. Times of the essence!
My overall impression
Funny, inspiring true storytelling about a very serious health issue: stage 4 cancer.
