Big Dad Energy is a transmasculine live comedy night founded by actor and trans trickster Marval Rex, produced by his trans son Jett Fink. It is, indeed, a family show through and through. BDE first graced a stage in Los Angeles at The Zephyr Theatre, and was supported by a WeHo Arts Grant in 2023. It is now a regular evening of comedy that has occurred at various venues in Los Angeles, including The Zephyr, The Virgil, and The Elysian Theatre. The regular lineup consists of D’Lo, a queer/transgender Tamil-Sri Lankan-American actor/writer/stand up comic; Janaya “Future” Kahn, an activist, model, organizer, public speaker, and comedian from Toronto Canada. Their work focuses on intersectional topics including the Black Lives Matter movement, queer theory, Black feminism, and organized protest strategies; Joey Soloway, an award-winning writer, director, producer, and LGBT activist. Soloway is the creator of the groundbreaking Amazon original series “Transparent.”; Kai, a comedian, writer, and actor based in Los Angeles. He has written for McSweeney’s, Reductress, Autostraddle, and been featured in Playboy. He is also the creator, producer and host of the cult favorite true-crime comedy podcast Women Who Kill and he performs standup comedy at clubs, colleges, and sketchy basements across the country; and the show is hosted by yours truly, Marval Rex, a transmasculine, Catalan-American actor, artist, director and cultural producer known for lots of cool things.

This show is revolutionary in that it breaks down stereotypes around an underrrepresented group of people: trans men and transmasculine experience. Come meet the dads… you never had.
