I enjoyed the specificity within all of the many moments. The script is of course phenomenal and it asks a lot of an actor — I thought they all took on the task well! The stage pictures were always changing in glorious ways. I loved that the actors were picking up their cues so fiercely (and the fiery 90 minute run time.) The ensemble functioned well as a whole, in addition to the many standout performances! Normalize imbuing heightened text with naturalistic behavior that feels relatable and grounded!
What I didn't like
Though I’m unfamiliar with this particular adaptation and I’ve experienced the logistical confines of Fringe (the space is otherwise impressively used), I wish that the piano was a more central feature as is typical in my experiences with the play. Perhaps it would have served Hedda to have moments to be with a big piano.
My overall impression
One of my favorite Fringe productions this year! Such thoughtful and precise direction, action, and design.
