What I liked

Kathleen handles the dark parts of this comedy with kid gloves and doesn’t let the audience sit with discomfort for very long. I wasn’t prepared for the genuine hilarity, for the high energy, for the emotional intelligence. Her physical comedy is just as good as the writing, and all of it together is really something to behold. People were clapping, engaged, leaning in. We were part of something special, and I’m so glad I experienced her genius.

What I didn't like

Tbh, I would have bought one of those candles. Where is the merch?

My overall impression

Given the name, Grief Box could have been a real bummer. But it is anything but that. This is an achingly funny and uplifting show about the messy, complicated, deeply human experience of losing someone you had complicated feelings about, and how no candle, journal, or specially-branded shortcut is going to fix the grief that follows. Kathleen Leary is a star and this show proves it.
