Everything about this worked so well. Kathleen’s performance was specific and dynamic and really heartfelt when it needed to be. The gags were all hilarious, the timing was spot on. The emotional turn was poignant and relatable and certainly didn’t overstay its welcome. I will have Party Rock Anthem stuck in my head for at least a month now. Overall, so so funny!
What I didn't like
There could be a few more beats of unraveling before the big climax denouement. A slightly more fleshed out arc amidst all the hilarious gags! Also a pitch: intro how the grief box works sooner to build up to the joke that leads to the emotional climax. It felt like a laugh that was earned too quickly and would have been funnier if it had been set up earlier. And because how the box worked wasn’t introduced early on, I was expecting something a little more magical. This is all personal preference obviously, so take it as you will. Seriously, brava!
My overall impression
So sharp and on point! Grief Box nails the humor of the parody over and over while still landing the emotional punch. Kathleen is an incredibly engaging performer with a POV and something to say. The hour flew by in the best way! I would highly recommend and would go see it again in a heartbeat.
