What I liked
FEMMINA SUPER is a one-woman modern opera by Bethany Hill, blending classical and contemporary music to tell the semi-autobiographical story of a young woman who leaves her fundamentalist upbringing to pursue a life of self-discovery in a music academy. Inspired by the pioneering 17th-century composer Barbara Strozzi, the opera explores themes of judgment, desire, family, and freedom. With a mix of classical singing, experimental sound, and ancestral wisdom, Hill delivers a powerful, emotional journey of breaking free from societal and familial constraints. Premiering at the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Festival, FEMMINA SUPER is a bold exploration of personal liberation and artistic expression.
