Each performers’ ability to transform into a wide array of characters and revel in its own irreverence was a true hallmark of the show’s entirety. The commitment each performer gave to their roles made each weirdo that much more appealing. Costumes were a huge highlight and everyone’s “go-all-in” attitude made it fun for the audience to catch a glimpse in the life of the weirdos. Highlights: Twin Security Guards, Mood Music Date, Cake Celebration.
What I didn't like
While it seemed that quantity was a focus, it left some of the sketches feeling rushed and didn’t let all the characters truly bring their roles to life. Opportunities:
• The recurring sketch in the bar could use more variance in each iteration between Dodi and the different patrons who entered. It had potential but fell flat. Maybe use a a different technique from the Carnegie book for each iteration of the sketch or let us know more about Dodi.
• The German music group had a lot of energy at the beginning but puttered out at the end with the criminal and the fan/Finger twist. I think going straight into a song and dance sequence would have been great rather than try to add a plot twist.
• A potential closer I would have liked to see could include bringing the biggest characters from the show back and bumping into each other in the lobby.
A lot of potential and strong team work; just sharpen the show and timing, and it’ll make the weirdos win.
My overall impression
Quick witted. Quick changes. Quick laughs. The Building was definitely filled with weirdos and with chuckles. Sometimes a bit rushed, this show could have benefited from “less is more” to allow the characters to really breathe. Overall, the weirdos were worthy!
