This show had me laughing so much. The dialogue was witty and realistic, brought to life by a great ensemble cast. It really reminded me of that time in my life, and hit hard on the nostalgia factor with all its nods to 2012. The fantasy asides were a treat, and the ballet fight had me simultaneously cracking up and cheering.
What I didn't like
I loved the insights we got into Katie Kate’s behavior, but some more interaction with her “subjects” might be helpful. Maybe one more instance where she demands something of the group or tries to manipulate / pit them against each other would help solidify her struggle to be a world-class, or at least world-classroom, dictator. Still, great overall!
My overall impression
Queen Bee was a well-written, funny examination of what might happen if a bunch of very different 12-year-old girls were forced to stay together during a school lockdown. Leaders are chosen, outsiders are bullied, friendships are tested… all hyped up to the level of pre-teen girl importance, a time when every little thing is life or death. Both hilarious and heartwarming, it was a perfect show to start my Fringe schedule!
