Katelyn Schiller is phenomenal. As in otherworldly. There are 3 elements on display in her performance that elevate her and the show beyond what anyone might expect.
1) A sense of being immediately present
Having seen her in immersive productions, Schiller has the gift of being able to be real and alive in every moment. She never acts. She IS. And captivates because you are with her in that presence.
2) The deftness with which she switches characters, fully inhabiting them in the blink of an eye.
Solo, multi-character shows require more than multiple voices. They require an actor become someone completely different whilst not allowing an audience to register the artifice. Rarely have I seen this accomplished. This show accomplishes that…and more.
3) Giving every last ounce of herself on stage.
If a character goes on a full emotional journey, so must the actor. It is again a rare treat to see an actor deliver on this level. Schiller gives herself completely.
What I didn't like
The story is an emotional journey, less so a clear narrative one. Some audience members, who somehow manage not to be captivated by Schiller, may find this approach challenging. I personally did not.
My overall impression
This is as astonishing an experience as you are likely to ever get from a solo performance. In a tiny space, Katelyn Schiller takes herself and her character on a complete emotional journey and you are with her — and arguably inside her mind and heart and soul — from the start.
