Great acting, abstract writing, unique storytelling, the bear puppet, and commitment to the art. Just great all around.
What I didn't like
The only thing I wanted as an audience member was to have some sense of what some of these scenes or characters represent. I fully buy into it, this beautiful surreal fever dream world means something… something allegorical or representative of something personal and internal going on within the character. I just keep coming back to what that something is, wishing that it was a little more clear. But of course, that could be an artistic choice that I just have to accept. And I’m okay with that because there’s never a moment in this show where you don’t feel like you’re in good hands.
My overall impression
Wildly artistic, powerful and strange, Murder Blood Bear Story Part 2 features one of the most committed acting performances I’ve ever seen. The range of Katelyn is unbelievable, as Katelyn is able to conjure different characters on a whim, expertly communicate intent to an audience, and shifts from laughter to the visceral, dark moments in the play are always earned. Always such a pleasure to watch a great artist like Katelyn excel at their craft, and this is no exception. And there’s a charming bear puppet with a wonderful smile on its face.
