The cast was exceptional. Every lead deserves to be on Broadway. Wowza. From the brilliantly disastrous mayor (Emerson Boatwright) to the hilarious “straight man” the doctor (jeff Carey), to the wild and crazy love interest (Shelby Miguel) and the wonderful heartfelt momma who had some of the best physical comedy I’ve ever seen ( Rodnesha k. Grey) everyone understood the assignment and delivered above and beyond. All incredible triple threats that I could write accolades for but I just don’t have the time. Bravo give these kids a raise
The ensemble from MidDirt drove the play and threw in hilarious one liners that kept the whole audience laughing uproariously. I wanna live in mud dirt!! The two at the end from Wisconsin had me giggling so much I almost fell out of my seat and I was in the front row!! And that poor guy whose wife kept cheating on him. I died 😂.
The standout was Bigfoot (Lucas Alifaro). His award worthy performance was nuanced, belly laugh inducing and tear jerkingly vulnerable. Wow. What a tour de force. He elevated every scene he was in. The third act blew me away. I was sobbing. Everyone was crying around me. It was so unexpectedly real that you could feel the audience shift and he had us with him the whole time. It was truly moving.
The tech was clean the music was wonderful and varied and rousing. The pace was fast. The writing was tight annd hilarious. and the cast was having so much fun up there that you couldn’t help but have a blast yourself. No wonder this show is sold out.
What I didn't like
Nothing. I can’t wait to see it again.
My overall impression
Best musical I’ve ever seen. The cast was LIVING and having the time of their lives and invited us to have the best night of our lives. The whole cast was fantastic, the music was hilarious and forward footed, the tech was smooth as butter and why is this show not on Broadway??
