What I liked
Sharp and funny writing, a well-crafted narrative structure (the opening scene sets a very clear tone in the best way), and many fun surprises throughout.
What I didn't like
I could see this expanded into a longer show, with a few more touch points to specifics in Carter’s story, and perhaps pushing the envelope a little further with the inner voice. With that said, this is the perfect size show for a fringe festival.
My overall impression
“Carter Talks About Kodiak Bears” is a delight to watch. It’s a show crafted around a simple premise: a presentation about the Kodiak bear from a passionate orator. Yet, what could’ve easily felt like a school presentation from the class clown, ends up being an endearing reflection on connection and a means towards self-discovery. A fun, at-times vulnerable, most-times hilarious show for the internet generation.
