It was creative using so little. Loved the pillow clown doll and the dancing with the floor lamp as her father, the reaching for the keys to escape only to discover they are toy keys. So many gems in this work: the dancing. Themes about imprisonment go beyond the physical. It was a heartfelt learning experience told and directed very well.
What I didn't like
I enjoyed everything about the work. It is obvious a lot of time and thought was invested in this play.
My overall impression
A Bella Incarceration is storytelling at its best. Ann Noble takes on the journey of Bella with consummate elegance using quotes from writers Emma Goldman, Dorothy Day and Nellie Bly. I had no expectations and was left standing at the end of such a delicate work. In the words of Nellie Bly- “I have never written a word that did not come from my heart”, the same can be said in regards to Ann Noble’s writing of A Bella Incarceration. Kudos to you Ann Noble and all those involved in this work. It was a great Tuesday night for me.
