A Midsummer Night’s Dream: The Fairyland Experience is Revelry Theatre Group’s vibrant reimagining of Shakespeare’s fantastical comedy of the same name.
As audience members enter the enchanted forest, they will walk about and see beloved characters such as the Lovers meandering: Hermia, Helena, Lysander, and Demetrius; the Rude Mechanicals at work: Nick Bottom, Francis Flute, Peter Quince, and Robin Starveling; and, of course, the Fairies making mischief: Puck, Oberon, Titania, and Titania’s fairy entourage.
When the play proper begins, it happens quite the same as Shakespeare wrote it, although this time one may notice multiple scenes happen simultaneously throughout the performance space. The audience will be allowed to choose who they might like to follow, and which story they are most interested in seeing unfold. Alternatively, they can choose to stay in one place and watch different parts of different stories ebb and flow in their area, as the characters move around the terrain of the enchanted forest.
And the audience gets to be characters as well! Lovers, Mechanicals, and Fairies alike will approach audience members and strike up a conversation, enlist their help, or even bring them on an adventure! Whether it’s getting painted with glitter, cast in the Mechanicals’ play, or taught the great wedding dance, audience and actors alike get to revel in the magical world of Fairyland.
