Elli’s sharp humor and remarkably wry self-awareness combine to make one of the best solo-performances I’ve ever seen. Even while poking fun at “doing-the-work,” Elli does it live and brings the audience along, validating and vindicating anyone in the audience who’s shared their own versions of her difficult choices. The staging was simple and tight, with a beautiful calendar that felt it had leaped right from the poster. The lighting was funny and the cues all sent the audience into fits of laughter each time. By the time you realize you’ve been walked into a deep emotional catharsis, you’ll be too busy rolling on the floor to care.
What I didn't like
Sell a Hell of a Year calendar, tbh, it popped
My overall impression
Hell of a Year keeps you constantly off-kilter with an unpredictable mix of crackling wit and potent vulnerability. Every word thru to the last line will take you off-guard and have you cackling into the dark.
