I appreciated the utilization of family, both in narrative style and in casting. I felt uniquely close to the project through the inter-generational approach that was applied to the storyline. It was compelling to see how the same feeling can permeate singular groups while feeling distinctly different between members. I enjoyed watching the family engage with one another as a unit, just as much as I enjoyed listening to their singular monologues. While each character was so different from one another, the central messaging wasn’t lost on me as a viewer. I hope more works around heavier topics can be just as positive!
What I didn't like
No notes, except more projects with Gary Burleson, please!!
My overall impression
A thoughtful, creative and playful commentary on existing social structures and the ways by which we’re affected by them over time. This work showcased how trauma can be passed on through generations, but provides a lighthearted approach to navigating that trauma and coming out of it on the other side stronger as a result. I laughed just as much as I cried. Looking forward to Aaron’s next debut!
