What I liked
Harley’s performance spellbinding, instantly disarming the audience and welcoming us to the performance. The technical aspects—lighting, sound, and shadow —were executed simply but with great precision. This show truly stands out as some of the most effective storytelling I’ve seen at HFF24 so far!
What I didn't like
While the intimate space worked so well for this performance, I’d love to see Harley’s work on a larger scale – with more seats!
My overall impression
“Not My Grandmother’s Daughter” is a heartwarming and enchanting exploration of family history through the art of shadow puppetry. Harley’s warm and whimsical performance, combined with the show’s magical technical elements, create a deeply personal and resonant narrative that captivates from start to finish.
