What I liked

The atmosphere of Tezcatlipoca moving the incense helped set the mood of the space immediately, and the fog machine was so smartly done with the lights, making them look like thunder clouds!! Smart and minimal effects. I also really loved the costuming and really everything; it was all well executed and designed.

What I didn't like

The only thing I could say could be improved would be the fog machine was a bit loud at times, though I know how expensive those can be and they’re never really silent. But it didn’t ever take me out of the story; this is just the only thing I could think of to be improved! I really want to know more about Neli and her life before her rebirth, but the ambiguity really helps us sit with her in her confusion.

My overall impression

This show was so so interesting and cool; the chemistry the actors had with eachother was electric and the atmosphere of the performance kept me hooked the whole way through. I really felt like I was transported to Mictlan, and felt Neli’s anxiety and trepedacious excitement hearing about earth and all its uncertainties. Mictlantecuhtli and the Mictecah (whose body acting was phenomenal) felt proper spooky, and Quetzalcoatl felt as impassioned as a god of learning and art should! And Tezcatlipoca felt like a real ally throughout, though of course providing no certainty. Amazing amazing performances, so glad I got to see this show!
