My overall impression
Excellent acting and writing! Rahvaunia’s portrays several characters that have contracted HIV, but are not the conventional stereotype. One is a woman who is “saving herself for marriage”, another is a young college co-ed, and yet another is a social media influencer. Throughout the show Rahvaunia’s narrator, a healer, weaves these stories together and we learn that HIV is now more prevalent in our older population, as well as in the our black older community. She makes some very important points regarding the lack of awareness of this issue, and hence the title of her show: tHIS is VERY IMPORTANT. Rahvaunia’s stage presence is so appealing — she makes it look to easy - she has the ability as a storyteller to make you feel as if she is speaking to you individually- as if she’s invited you over for coffee and then you are transfixed into a world she has so skillfully crafted. I left the theatre more concerned for this issue, and also more hopeful—that through Rahvaunia’s work more outreach can be done to save lives and improve quality of life.
