Chanel’s show was so funny. It was charming and painfully relatable. I loved all the costume changes and any time Chanel picked up an instrument. It’s not surprising they used to be in a band because they are insanely musically talented!
It was a delight to see Chanel interact with the audience. They were able to bring quieter people out of their shells or go toe-to-toe with more bold audience members. Chanel is an empathy chameleon, able to provide what’s needed in the given moment and take you on their journey. I enjoyed when audience members got to embody some of Chanel’s awful boys and cheered when Chanel (and us collectively chanting) blocked them. It truly was a delight to watch them perform and an honor to be given so much of themself in this raw emotional rollercoaster.
What I didn't like
Honestly, I just wanted more. Even when there was a little technical error near the end, Chanel handled it like a pro. If I understood correctly, it seems that we got a different ending than their previous performance, so it already shows me that they are willing to change things if they think it’ll improve the show. And from what was mentioned, this new ending felt more appropriate to Chanel’s difficult but ultimately hopeful journey (and had a fun audience participation bit too).
So yeah, just more. If Chanel is willing to share, can’t wait to learn about the other people they’ve had to block. I do hope there will be less people to block in the future though, because they deserve the best!
My overall impression
All the Boys I Blocked was the first clown show I have ever seen and if other clowns are half as good as Chanel, they may have sparked a lifelong love for me! Chanel is an amazing performer, really in tune with their audience and just absolutely hilarious.
