The actors were superb (especially Ms. Dobbyn—I was crying with her at the end at Joyce’s death!) and the writing astute. It really made me appreciate the lifetime of sacrifices both these humans made for Joyce’s art. A work as great as Ulysses is not something you create in a few months.
What I didn't like
Not that I “didn’t like”, but thought could make the show even better: To make things more immersive, interweave sound effects during certain moments, like the ocean/seagulls when they are at sea, for example. That’d require a sound tech…but I think I’d prefer someone running the music and sound design digitally vs a live performer on a synthesizer. I also wish I could see this in a larger theatre.
My overall impression
N0ra and Jim was a delightful, intimate, whirlwind journey through the lives of Nora Barnacle and James Joyce.
